SBCC's online Medical Coding Program recognized as one of the nation's best

With online learning becoming ever more important in higher education today, Santa Barbara City College stands poised to deliver. In addition to offering over 100 classes online this summer, SBCC's Medical Coding Specialist Program – which is offered entirely online – has been recognized by Intelligent.com as one of the best online medical coding programs in the U.S.
Medical coders are the ones who ensure that valid codes are applied to medical diagnoses and procedures to facilitate reimbursement, analysis of patient outcomes and research. Changes in healthcare and insurance regulations, new technology and increased demand for services make medical coding a rapidly-growing field.

Approved by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and rated “Best Professional Certificate Approved Program (P-CAP)” by Intelligent.com, the certificate program consists of 13 courses for a total of 38 credits. Students can take one, two or three courses per term, depending on family and work commitments.

Two prerequisite courses will be offered this summer: Human Form and Function - BMS 146 in summer session 1 (May 18-June 27) and Introduction to Computers and Information Systems - CIS 101 in summer session 2 (July 29-Aug. 8).
