What is Running Start?

Running Start is a 6-week summer bridge program for local high school students completing the 12th grade. Running Start provides services to new, low-income, first-generation, underrepresented, and educationally disadvantaged high school students to receive comprehensive guidance and support as they begin their educational journey in SBCC. There are limited spots available each summer for qualifying students. Students need to complete all the Steps to Apply and must go through an Interview Process to be selected. The Program will begin in Summer 2026.

What is the goal of the program?

The goal of the program is to assist students in making a smooth transition to college life. The Running Start Program will provide students with academic and financial assistance necessary to maneuver life as a College Student in order to be prepared and achieve success as a First Time to College Student.

Student responsibility:
  • Enroll in Assigned Summer Courses: TBD
    • Add Codes will be provided by the Running Start Advisor 
  • Attend School:
    • In-Person Class: Monday – Thursday
    • Student Success Time (Tutoring and Advising)
    • Field Trips on Fridays
  • Attending Class and Field Trips is mandatory to earn your weekly pay stubs!
Running Start will provide the following:
  • Tutoring, Counseling and Peer Advising
  • Introduction to our EOPS Program
  • Meal Plan (Free Lunch in School and Field Trips) 
  • School Supplies
  • Field trip/activities (Ex. Dodger Game and Universal Studios)
  • Students receive $400 per week upon meeting the mandatory student responsibilities
Steps to Apply:

Step 1 

Students must complete the Running Start Interest Form to begin the evaluation process (Application Closes on March 20th, 2026)

Step 2

Students will be contacted via email by Fernando Cortes from Dual Enrollment with the required steps for Summer 2026. Please be sure to consistently check your SBCC Pipeline Email or the Email you provided when filling your Running Start Interest Form.

Step 3

Students must have completed Step 1 and have an SBCC ID number (K number) before completing Step 3: the CCPG application. This will determine your financial eligibility for the program. Complete your application using your SBCC K number. (Note Apply for the Fall 2025 to Summer 2026 Application) Once completed, email Jesus at  jmtorres5@pipeline.sbcc.edu to review your results

If you can't submit your CCPG application due to not having a K number, you can apply and provide your 2025-2026 FAFSA/Dream Act SAI number to determine your eligibility.
