Transportation to Santa Barbara

New international students may arrive in the U.S. up to 30 days before the program start date listed on their I-20. Most international students fly into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). You have many transportation options from LAX to Santa Barbara, including: taking a connecting flight to Santa Barbara Airport, taking the train, ordering a driver, taking a shuttle.

Final Departure Grace Period: When purchasing a flight to leave the U.S. after your last semester, be aware of the grace periods for F-1 students. If you do not complete an associate degree, you must leave the U.S. within 15 days after the end of your last semester. You can find semester start and end dates on the Academic Calendar.

  • Santa Barbara Airbus makes several trips daily between Los Angeles Intl. Airport, (LAX) and the Santa Barbara area; stopping at three different locations: Carpinteria, Santa Barbara and Goleta. Passengers arriving at LAX Airport should go to the Lower Level at LAX, where the Airbus drivers stop at each terminal at designated pick-up times and locations.  Passengers should wait for the Airbus at the center island beneath the GREEN AND SILVER markers/signs announcing Buses and Long-Distance Vans.  This is the most affordable and convenient option.  For schedules, cost, and details visit Santa Barbara Airbus

  • Amtrak Pacific Surfliner makes several trips daily between Union Station in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. You will have to take the FlyAway Bus from LAX to Union Station to catch your train to Santa Barbara. The train station in Santa Barbara is within walking distance to SBCC and downtown Santa Barbara. Be sure to check out deals for students, weekend trips, and frequent riders. For schedules, cost, and details visit Amtrak Pacific Surfliner

  • If you choose to take the shuttle, you have two options:

    1. A "Meet and Greet" service which is more convenient but more expensive
    2. A bus-stop pickup which is more economical

    "Meet and Greet" Service

Pick-ups are made upon request of the client. A Roadrunner chauffeur parks the vehicle in a parking lot outside the arriving terminal. The chauffeur then goes into baggage claim and waits for the client at the entrance, holding a sign with the client's last name. Once the chauffeur and the client have met, the chauffeur carries the bags to the car, helps the client into the vehicle, and drives the client to their desired destination.

    Bus-Stop Pickup

Students can also make a reservation with Roadrunner and walk outside the airport to wait no more than twenty minutes for the bus to come by. Please contact Roadrunner for more information and price quotes.
